St Barnabas is fortunate in possessing a fine Willis II organ. For further information about this organ, click here

Regular organ recitals are played at St Barnabas Church each year, usually after Evensong at Harvest Festival and Easter Day. In the summer, the weekly organ recitals are played  at 12 noon on Fridays, which is a time to come along and enjoy the magnificent sound of our 1914 Henry Willis organ. At these recitals, tea, coffee and biscuits are served as part of the warm welcome always given to visitors and for which St Barnabas Church is well known.

In addition to the organ recitals, regular church concerts also take place. St Barnabas is a splendid concert venue due to the church's very good acoustics and prominent town position at the intersection of Penny Lane, Smithdown Road and Allerton Rd in Mossley Hill, Liverpool. These recitals and concerts are also a good opportunity for folks to come in and see the beautiful interior of this parish church

St Barnabas Church has an enthusiastic four part choir (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) made of up of women, men, girls and boys. Choir practice takes place on Thursday evening and the choir lead the 11.00 am and 6.30 pm services each Sunday. St Barnabas Church prides its self on keeping alive traditional Church of England  Worship which many find has a great depth of spirituality.

The choir strives of an ever higher standard under the direction of  Colin Porter, our Director of Music and organist

Colin Porter was appointed Hon. Organist & Director of Music at St Barnabas Church in October 2004. He is Organist & Choirmaster of SS Matthew and James, Mossley Hill, a post he has held since 1985. Through the formation of the Mossley Hill Team Ministry, he was asked in addition to his post at St Matthew & St James to take charge of the music here at St Barnabas. Because of this, Colin finds himself in the unusual position of being Organist of two parish churches, training both choirs and being responsible for two very fine Willis organs.

Mr Alan Thornecroft who is Assistant Organist of SS Matthew and James,  Mossley Hill is now also Assistant Organist at St Barnabas Church, Mossley Hill, roles in which he ably assists Mr Porter

Alan Thornecroft : Assistant Organist

On a regular basis, the St Barnabas choir joins forces with the  sister choir of SS Matthew and James, Mossley Hill for joint choral and festival services. These services can take place in either church, with outstanding results musically and are spiritually uplifting for both the congregation and choir alike.

It isn't all singing. The choir has a great social life with choir meals, BBQs and the odd few scoops down' the pub. The choir also has occasional socials with their chorister friends from St Matthew & St James.

St Barnabas is looking for new choristers, especially adult singers to strengthen the four parts of the choir. So if you can sing - and you don't have to be brilliant - why miss out?

Come along, make new friends and enjoy our heritage of fabulous choral music. A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOU!
