Advent

Advent (that is the time before the coming) starts at the beginning of  December and the four weeks leading to Christmas mark the beginning of the Church's year. It is traditional to hold a service of Darkness into Light in the first week in December. The service symbolises the transition from  a time without Jesus Christ  to His birth and coming amongst us on Christmas Day ( December 25th).

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World.

For Christians, the light-darkness contrast comes to signify the mutually hostile worlds of good and evil. Jesus says "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." (John 8:12) Christ brings us from death to life. He is our spiritual light revealing a truth inaccessible to sight and touch but apprehensible by the eyes of faith. ( for reference click here)
