Holding a Christingle at St Barnabas Mossley Hill

This is my Christingle

Each year St Barnabas' Parish Church organises a Christingle service for the children of the church in aid of the Children's Society's work with more deprived children. The Christingle is a custom that originated in the Moravian Church in 1747 and seeks to symbolise  and celebrate the creation of the earth, its seasons,  and the  life of Jesus Christ showing Him to be the world's true light.

The Word Christingle means Christ Light.

The Christingle is made up of several parts.

The orange stands for the world that God has created.

The four cocktail sticks represent the four seasons which God constantly provides.

Fruit and sweets on the sticks are examples of God's gifts to us of food.

Around the orange is a red band, to remind us of the blood of Jesus Christ, shed for the world.

The lighted candle in the top of the orange symbolises the coming of Jesus, the light of the world.

The gifts of money that we have given help to bring light to children and young people in need in this country.

The children saved up their money and donated it to help the  work of the Children's Society  amongst other more deprived children.

In addition many parents supplement this collection by filling their own Children's Society Boxes which are emptied at quarterly  coffee morning meetings in at St Barnabas Church.
