St Barnabas Church and old Parish Hall, Penny Lane Liverpool
St Barnabas Parish Church is prominently sited on Penny Lane Corner in the south Liverpool suburb of Mossley Hill. On Bank Holiday Monday, August 27th, 2007, the church was especially opened for visitors attending internationally famous Mathew Street Beatles festival. In the mid 1950s, one of the Beatles, now Sir Paul McCartney, sang in St Barnabas' choir. As shown in the orange poster above, in 1962, the Beatles pop group sang at one of the many weekend events held at the famous St Barnabas Parish Hall.
People from several different countries visited the church during the St Barnabas Penny Lane Memories Day, together with many local people. As well as a display of Beatle memorabilia, there was a display of old photographs of the Penny Lane area, taken in the 1950s and 1960s. This attracted much attention and discussion.
